The duet is an encounter between two women from different generations with distinct physical experiences. Starting from their chance meeting, the spatial and temporal overlap of their two life paths, they explore the question of living alongside, with and for one another.
The principle of spatial mirroring is a feature of the piece, interrupting the linearity of time, putting it into a continuous loop and placing the performance in a state of suspension. The protagonists mirror each other’s future and past. What connects the two is their physical presence in the here and now. The present.
This contact between two worlds in the concrete here and now exceeds personal comprehension. It represents an apparent excess and at the same time stands for the necessity of repeatedly stepping beyond one’s own world, thinking bigger and seeing the individual as part of something greater.
in my own space is a duet by Maria Anna Farcher and Inge Gappmaier, created at the invitation of D.ID Dance Identity / Liz King.
